Membership Requirements

Eligibility Requirements for American Legion Riders

 

In all cases, the prospective Rider must first be a current member, in good standing, in one of the three organizations of The American Legion Family:

 

The American Legion (APPLICATION)

The American Legion Auxiliary (APPLICATION)

The Sons of The American Legion (APPLICATION)

 

TCALR has also adopted the following eligibility rules for Rider membership:

 

1. Own a motorcycle of at least 350cc engine displacement and must possess a valid driver’s license in your state of residence. (If overseas an appropriate local licensing is acceptable).

 

2. Applicant must maintain proof of coverage for all motorcycle collision, medical, property damage and liability insurance required by local and state laws and of any additional coverage required by the sponsoring American Legion Post.

 

3. If applicant does not own a motorcycle then he/she must be the spouse of an ALR member in good standing within the chapter of application.

 

Eligibility Requirements for American Legion Membership

 

If you are currently on active duty, serving the United States honorably, anywhere in the world, or have served honorably during any of the following eligible war eras, we invite you to become a member of The American Legion. National Guard and Reservists having been federally activated (including basic training) during these same war eras also meet the eligibility requirements.

 

Aug. 2, 1990 to today (Gulf War / War On Terrorism)

Dec. 20, 1989 to Jan. 31, 1990 (Panama)

Aug. 24, 1982 to July 31, 1984 (Lebanon / Grenada)

Feb. 28, 1961 to May 7, 1975 (Vietnam War)

June 25, 1950 to Jan. 31, 1955 (Korean War)

Dec. 7, 1941 to Dec. 31, 1946 (World War II)

April 6, 1917 to Nov. 11, 1918 (World War I)

 

A copy of your DD214 or other discharge paperwork showing dates and character of service is required at application.

 

Eligibility Requirements for American Legion Auxiliary Membership

 

A woman who is eligible for membership in The American Legion is also eligible to join the American Legion Auxiliary.  The mother, wife, daughter, sister, grand-daughter, great-grand-daughter or grandmother of members of the American Legion, and/or deceased veterans who served in the United States Armed Forces during the listed war eras.

 

Aug. 2, 1990 to today (Gulf War / War On Terrorism)

Dec. 20, 1989 to Jan. 31, 1990 (Panama)

Aug. 24, 1982 to July 31, 1984 (Lebanon / Grenada)

Feb. 28, 1961 to May 7, 1975 (Vietnam War)

June 25, 1950 to Jan. 31, 1955 (Korean War)

Dec. 7, 1941 to Dec. 31, 1946 (World War II)

April 6, 1917 to Nov. 11, 1918 (World War I)

 

Or is a step relative to a qualified or deceased veteran.  A copy of The American Legion membership card or DD214 of the Veteran through who you are qualified is required at application.

 

Eligibility Requirements for Sons of the American Legion Membership

All applicants for membership in the Sons of The American Legion must meet the following requirements established by The American Legion to be eligible for membership. (1) Applicant must be a male descendant, adopted son or stepson of a member of The American Legion. (2) Or the applicant must be a male descendant of a veteran who died in service during World War I, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Lebanon, Grenada, Panama, and the Persian Gulf War, or who died subsequent to their Honorable Discharge from such service.  A male descendant of a veteran is defined as one of the following:

A son

A grandson

A great-grandson (and so on)

A stepson

An adopted son

A copy of the American Legion membership card or proof of veteran status of the Veteran through whom you are qualified is required at application.  If you meet these requirements you are eligible for membership in the Sons of the American Legion.
